Rise Above: Breaking Free From the Chains of Spiritual Isolation a 5-Day Devotional With Katherine ShorterSample
Day 4: Building a Community of Support
One of the most freeing things we can experience in our lives is having a community of believers and overcomers with whom we can walk. I think of all the different types of recovery groups out there. The one thing they all have in common? They have found their community of people who have walked the path to healing that they want to traverse. This community also allows them to walk together with the hope and faith that they get to where they need to be.
This is the beauty of the body of Christ that God created for us. Even in the Garden of Eden, He looked at Adam and knew that it wasn’t right for him to be alone in life. The word “relationship” means “...a state of being connected.” We were designed for companionship and community. The Father wants us to be in relationship with Him and with each other.
When I learned and experienced the power found in my own hedge/community, it emboldened and strengthened me to continue to seek God and His will for my life. It knocked down the walls that isolated me from the body.
But how do you find and curate your community of support? When we pray and ask God for His will in our lives, He is pleased to answer. Ask Him to send people He has created to walk alongside you on your journey. Submit your heart to Him in humility and pray for discernment to be your guide when you are considering a person to be in relationship with on your journey.
______
Who are the people God has sent to be your hedge of protection? How has God confirmed they are sent by Him?
About this Plan
The enemy hunts the hurt member of the herd that has fallen behind. When walking in hurt and shame, we live outside the protection of the flock of believers. But that’s not what God wants for us. This 5-day devotional will show how finding freedom in Him gives us access to the safe haven found in the community of those who also trust and believe in Him.
