Experience The Book That Shapes HistorySample

Galileo
Galileo believed the sun was at the center of the universe, siding with the Copernican theory. Galileo’s opponents often cited Joshua 10, in which Joshua commands the sun to “stand still.” They claimed that the passage must mean the sun was previously in motion and the earth itself was stationary. But, Galileo argued instead that Joshua had stopped the sun’s rotation, therefore freezing the whole solar system.
