The Kid: An Advent Devotional for High SchoolersSample

Jesus was born in a small town called Bethlehem in a time of great danger. King Herod, a powerful ruler, felt threatened by the rumors of Jesus' birth and wanted to get rid of Him. In response, Jesus’ family fled to Egypt and later settled in Nazareth. Not exactly the peaceful entry into the world you’d think Jesus would have!
While it may be unexpected, it certainly isn’t unrelatable. We all know what navigating stressful, unexpected circumstances feels like, especially at the holidays! When we do, we can remember that we’re not the only ones. Jesus Himself came into a world of chaos, and in His presence, we can find comfort in our chaos this holiday season.
To work on memorizing this verse this season, read the rest of Matthew 2 with your family, Small Group, or just a close friend. Talk about what it teaches you about Jesus’ birth and how you can find comfort in Him when life feels chaotic around you.
