Staying Free After Breaking Free

DAY 13 OF 15

GOD SPEAKS!

When I was a little girl, my dad and I had a special way of communicating with one another. It drove my brother and sister crazy! Many times, my brother and sister would put our ‘secret language’ to the test. Dad would babble a few words and then they would ask me to interpret. Of course, Dad always confirmed my translation was correct.

To my brother and sister (or anyone else who was listening), our coded conversations sounded like gibberish. Although it was nothing more than a clever ruse to trick my brother and sister, our nonsensical babble had made me feel a special connection to my dad. Through our secret language, I felt cherished and loved.

Today, it is my heavenly Father who communicates with me in special ways. God and I have a special connection, a secret language of sorts, known only to us. However, our furtive dialect is not a childhood game; it’s the real thing.

We often think of communication with God as only prayers, meditations, and hearing Him speak to us through His Word. While those are wonderful ways to communicate with our heavenly Father, they are not the only ways God speaks to His children.

God knows each one of us intimately; He knows exactly how to get our attention. One of the special ways God speaks to me is through a succession of three numbers that are the same.

At different times during the day, God directs my attention to numbers in sequence of three. For example: I pick up my phone and the time reads 4:44. I happen to glance at a highway billboard sign as I’m passing by and the phone number begins with 222. After driving the highway for miles, my eyes are suddenly drawn to mile marker 111. It’s not a coincidence! God recognizes this is a way to get my attention. It has now become a special reminder that Jesus is right there with me.

It happens so many times throughout the day that I have even started pointing it out to my husband. “Look,” I say, “777—God is speaking to me!” When I first started pointing these out to him, he thought I was crazy. But now, even he admits that as often as it happens there’s no way it could be a coincidence.

So why does God continue to speak to me in this unique way? I think it’s because He delights in knowing He’s able to get my attention. Three numbers in a row remind me that God is Three in One: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each time my attention is drawn to these numbers, I immediately stop what I’m doing and pray, thanking God for revealing Himself and praising Him for who He is. I tell him how much I love Him and appreciate knowing that He takes time to speak to me.

Like any cherished relationship, it takes time to build intimacy with God. God will speak to you in special ways too. It may be a different method than how He speaks to me, but I can promise you this. If you ask God to reveal Himself to you in special ways, He will. The Lord is eager to reveal Himself to His children.

“Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know” (Jeremiah 33:3).

Would you look at that, Jeremiah 33:3. God speaks!

PERSONAL REFLECTION

Intimacy with God is crucial for maintaining healing and freedom. Pray and ask God to help you see him throughout the day. Tell him you are eager to experience his presence.

PRAYER

Lord, I know you are right here with me. Help me to see your presence in tangible undeniable ways. I love you, Lord. Thank you in advance for revealing yourself to me. Amen.

About this Plan

Staying Free After Breaking Free

It was 2003 when I looked into the mirror and fully surrendered my 25-year battle with bulimia over to Jesus. Although I had been working on recovery with the Lord for more than a year, I realized there was one final step before freedom was truly mine. Twenty-one-years later, I am still walking in freedom! Breaking free is only part of the battle. Staying free requires a new level of strength and strategy. This plan reveals several keys to success that have guided my personal freedom-journey, and they can help you stay free too.
