Praying Through Dark Times

DAY 1 OF 3

When You Feel Unseen

“She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: ‘You are the God who sees me,’ for she said, ‘I have now seen the One who sees me.’” – Genesis 16:13 (NIV)

Hagar the Runaway

Hagar sat alone in the wilderness, overwhelmed and forgotten. After fleeing the harsh treatment she faced, she felt invisible—cast aside by those who should have cared for her. Alone and uncertain, she wondered if anyone noticed her pain and if anyone cared.

At that moment, God met her. He didn’t just see her suffering—He spoke to her, offering comfort and hope. In her encounter with the Lord, Hagar named Him El Roi, “the God who sees me.” She realized that even in her darkest moment, God had been watching over her all along. He saw her when no one else did.

You're Not Invisible

Maybe, like Hagar, you feel invisible today. Life’s burdens weigh heavily, and it seems like God is distant, unaware of the depths of your struggle. But just because we can’t see how He is working doesn’t mean He isn’t present. God sees you, even when you feel unseen. He hears your prayers, even when it feels like they go unanswered.

God Sees You

In the middle of your darkest times, you can trust that God is with you. Just as He met Hagar in the wilderness, He meets you where you are—offering the comfort of His presence and the assurance that you are never alone. Even when life feels uncertain, you can hold onto the truth that He is the God who sees you, and His work is always in play, even when you can’t see it.

Let's Pray

God, I feel invisible and unseen by the world, but Your Word reminds me that You are the God who sees me. I know You understand my struggles and trust that You are working in my life, even when I can’t see it. Open my eyes to Your presence and give me peace, knowing I am never alone. Amen.

Let's Reflect

When have you felt invisible in your struggles? How does it change your perspective to know that God sees you and is working in your life, even when you can’t see it?

I look forward to sharing Day 2 with you!
