Jesus Is Like My Mother-In-Law

Over the past 25 years, I have come to know my mother-in-law as a devout, hardworking, reliable, and generous child of God. Also (she gave me permission to tell you this), I have learned that she is a walking spoiler alert! If she sees a great movie before you do, watch out! She has a hard time keeping the good news to herself.

Jesus is a lot like that. Instead of making us live with the suspense and the fear (Will I be good enough to go to heaven? Will modern culture sweep away true Christian faith?), Jesus tells us how the story of human history ends.

Will Christianity die? “I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it” (Matthew 16:18).

Will evil win? “And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown” (Revelation 20:10).

Will you be good enough to be with God? “[God] has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation” (Colossians 1:22).

There is hard work to do, a good fight to be fought, and a faithful race to be run, but take a deep breath today and let Jesus spoil the ending of our story — God and his people will win!
