Navigating Election Season With Biblical Wisdom

DAY 2 OF 5

You don't have to look very far to find people arguing about politics. And most of the arguments center around why the "other" candidate is wrong, horrible, terrible, or even evil.

And yet...how often do those conversations begin or end with prayer? (In my experience, not very often.)

In 1 Timothy, Paul reminds Timothy (who was living in a very divisive culture in Ephesus) of something you and I need to be reminded of as well...

We are called to PRAY for our leaders.

  • Does that mean we can't disagree with them? No.
  • Does that mean we can never call out why we disagree with them? No.
  • Does that mean we can never speak boldly about their inappropriate actions and words? No.

It does mean that - if we truly believe that God "...wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth" - then we better pray for our leaders.

Even the ones we disagree with!

Only God can change hearts. And He can change the heart of the leader who frustrates you or disappoints you.

When we pray, God also changes our hearts, attitudes, thoughts, and engagement in political conversations.

We need to pray much more than we argue. Don't you think?
