The Covenant Relationship of MarriageSample

Sacrificial Love
A very important formula for a successful marriage can be found in Gen 2:24. That formula is “leave + cleave”. Man is to leave father and mother and cleave to his wife. Leave and cleave denotes breaking the dependent status with Mom and Dad and committing to the marriage relationship. The cleaving process results in 2 becoming 1, a mystery. The husband is commanded to love his wife as Christ loved the Church and gave Himself for it—unconditional, sacrificial, never- ending love! That kind of love will overtake the wife drawing her closer every day. This kind of love is renewing, invigorating, and empowering! What love!

About this Plan

Scripture parallels the relationship of Christ and His Church, to the marriage union showing us the strength of covenant relationship. Jesus submitted to the will of the Father and demonstrated His love for the Church when He laid down His life. Marriage is a covenant that calls for the couple to relate to one another as exemplified by Jesus. This 3-day plan by Donna Templeton addresses some very necessary relational aspects of marriage.
