Celebrating a Savior-Centered Christmas

DAY 3 OF 3

Day 3

The most important thing is that both now at Christmastime and throughout the entire year, that we ensure our children have a firm foundation in the Word of God. Of course, we can try to liven the season, and there are many ways to do that without misleading our children about the existence of a red-suited, supernatural, all-knowing being who is constantly watching over them. Gingerbread houses, Christmas lights, matching pajamas, and making a birthday cake for Jesus can all become beloved childhood memories. Moreover, we can tell our children about the historical man, Saint Nicholas, who served God well and cared for the poor and downtrodden.

Whether or not to participate in the Santa story will be a deeply personal decision for each family and goes far beyond the scope of this devotional. But at the end of the day, we can all focus on God’s ultimate gift –Jesus, who loved us and died for us when we didn’t deserve it. He loves us on our worst days – even on those days, we’re still getting grace, not a lump of coal.

Have a blessed and Merry Christmas!
