God's Heart for Justice: A 5-Day Devotional on Compassion and ActionSample
Justice Is Personal to God
I can tell you from firsthand experience that the world is desperate for Christians who are surrendered to God, who have an authentic faith that demonstrates God’s passion for justice, and are willing to take action.
Every day, all around the globe, traffickers tell their victims that they are worthless, unwanted and unlovable, which is contrary to God’s truth. But when we take action and stand against injustice, we affirm God’s truth, honor his image in every person, and remind the world that he hears, sees and acts on behalf of the oppressed.
For God, injustice is never an abstraction, because he has an intimate connection with every single person on earth, including the victims of human trafficking. In fact, he has been with them their entire life, because, like he did for you and me, he knit them together in their mother’s womb.¹
Therefore, when injustice occurs, it isn’t just an offense against people, it is a wound to his heart. Every human being has been created in his image², so when a man, woman or child is oppressed, exploited or treated as though they have no worth, it dishonors God. It’s personal to him, because it shows contempt for him as the maker of heaven and earth. It devalues the person in whom he has chosen to place his image.
In this fight, I understand that none of us can do everything, but I am convinced that all of us can do something.
Reflection
What steps can you take to honor God today by valuing and protecting others?
Prayer
Lord, help me to see every person as you see them—fearfully and wonderfully made in your image. Give me the courage to stand against injustice and to affirm the dignity and worth you have placed in each person’s life. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
