There Is No Law Against These Things

DAY 5 OF 9

Day 5

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! (Galatians 5:22-23)

Kindness is the fifth fruit of the Spirit and a direct reflection of God's love within us. Ephesians 4:32 calls believers to "be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you." This form of kindness is rooted in the forgiveness and grace we've received from God. It's not a fleeting act but a deep, heartfelt response to others' needs, demonstrating both empathy and love.

Jesus models kindness in Luke 6:35 when He says, "Love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back." This radical kindness challenges us to be generous with our love and compassion, even when it's difficult. Romans 2:4 explains how God's kindness leads us to repentance and how emulating that kindness can transform hearts. The kindness we extend to others should carry the same purpose—leading others to experience the grace of God.

In 2 Corinthians 6:6-7, Paul speaks of the importance of showing kindness in "purity, understanding, patience, and kindness" as we represent Christ in the world. Kindness is an outward expression of the inner work of the Holy Spirit. Colossians 3:12 reminds believers," clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience," emphasizing that kindness should be a natural part of our Christian identity.

Making Kindness Count

Kindness starts with seeing others through God's eyes and recognizing their inherent worth. Start each day with a prayer for a heart of kindness. Be intentional about showing kindness, whether through a small gesture or a larger act of service. Look for opportunities to serve those around you, whether it's a word of encouragement, offering help, or simply listening with empathy. As you interact with others, ask yourself: How can I be kind in this moment?

About this Plan

There Is No Law Against These Things

The fruit of the Holy Spirit, as outlined in Galatians 5:22-23, represents God's transformative work in the life of a believer. These qualities are woven throughout Scripture, offering a portrait of the Christlike character we are called to embody. Embracing these virtues is the definitive mark of a life changed by Jesus and empowered by His Holy Spirit. This nine-part devotional will explore just what that looks like in the life of a true Christ-follower.
