Redeemed: Ruth’s Story of Restoration

DAY 2 OF 4

Provision in the Field

In Chapter 2, God’s providence is evident as Ruth unknowingly ends up in Boaz’s field, who by the way, was a wealthy relative of Naomi’s late husband. It invites us to reflect on God’s faithfulness, both in Scripture and in our own lives, It is a reminder that He will not abandon us in times of trouble.

Ruth begins gleaning in the field to provide for Naomi and herself. She finds not only favor but uncommon favor with Boaz. He showed enormous generosity towards her. Even ensuring that Ruth could pick up what was left over in the field to share with Naomi. Boaz even advised the harvesters not to reprimand her for taking some home as we see in verses 15-16 in this Chapter.

“Let her gather among the sheaves and don’t reprimand her. 16 Even pull out some stalks for her from the bundles and leave them for her to pick up, and don’t rebuke her.”

Ruth taking a step towards the unknown was bold. As a Moabite widow, her chances of finding acceptance in another homeland, let alone provision, were going to be pretty slim. Noami knew how important it was for Ruth to be placed where she was. She prayed a blessing upon Boaz.

Ruth leaned into the God of Israel, trusting He would provide through the right source. Her faith in Naomi’s God was demonstrated through her actions, as she worked diligently to support both of them with protection at the helm.

20 “The Lord bless him!” Naomi said to her daughter-in-law. “He has not stopped showing his kindness to the living and the dead.” She added, “That man is our close relative; he is one of our guardian-redeemers.

Trusting God in times of uncertainty requires surrendering fears and doubts to Him and leaning into His promises. It means believing His plans for greater are true, even when circumstances feel overwhelming. It’s a call to anchor ourselves in His Word, seeking wisdom and comfort in verses that affirm His sovereignty and love.

Sharing your worries with God is a powerful opportunity to deepen your relationship with Him. Seeking peace that surpasses understanding and trusting that His purpose for your life is good, is strengthened through prayer. Also, surrounding yourself with a supportive community of believers is pertinent so you stay encouraged to remain steadfast in faith.

Ruth gives us a good glimpse of God’s hand at work. You have to ask yourself where you see God’s hand at work in your life. Who has God sent to be your support, and share his kindness and generosity? God wants to provide for us in unexpected ways, it's a part of his character.
