DAY 6 OF 6

A Fully Consecrated Life

Consecration is choosing to dedicate something to Jesus to be his and his alone. The Hebrew word is qadash, directly related to the word qodesh, which means “holy.”

Biblically speaking, the first act of consecration takes place on the seventh day of creation in Genesis 2:3, when God blesses and sanctifies the Sabbath day. From that point on, consecration becomes the precondition for God’s filling something. You can consecrate your body (and, please, your sexuality), your money, your time, your dreams, and your aspirations. The refuge life is a consecrated life, which is to say you choose to bring your life and all that is under your care into God’s Kingdom and under the rule of Jesus.

Now, of course, consecration is both an act and a lifestyle. You choose to dedicate your body to God, and then you live that decision out as you operate in holiness in your sexuality, your appetites, and how you treat your body (you are not allowed to abuse it). The same holds true for anything in your “kingdom”—anything under your direct supervision.

It’s a really good idea to consecrate your realm to God. This includes your family, health, finances, vehicles, appliances, technology, pets, and everything else under your control. You’ll also want to consecrate your calendar, submitting your work and vacation plans to God. Make this process tangible. For instance, you might go into each child’s room as you pray for them. Or you might place a hand on your wallet or purse as you consecrate your finances and on your vehicle as you give it to God.

When you travel, you’ll want to consecrate your hotel room, vacation home, meeting rooms, and rental vehicles for as long as you have authority over them. There is, of course, much more that follows in a consecrated life. Your choice of entertainment.

The way you respond to people. Your imagination. Behavior matters.

Choices matter. But you must start somewhere. And that somewhere is learning to consecrate things and bring them under the jurisdiction of the Lord Jesus Christ and into his Kingdom. The maturing mystic lives with sober awareness and seeks over time a fully consecrated life.

There is more to come

The book releases on March 4, 2025, and is available for pre-order now.

But there’s more—we will be releasing a comprehensive companion video and study guide, along with a brand-new program for the Pause App to help you engage with these life-changing themes in deeper ways.
