Day Three - Love

Love is the hallmark of the Christian life. It is first in the list of the Fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22-23). Paul wrote to the Corinthians… ”If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.” (1 Cor. 13:1) Jesus said, “by this, everyone will know that you are my disciples; by your love for one another.” (John 13:35)

Love is the universal language. Everyone longs for it. Everyone needs it. The overflow of love in our lives attracts people to us and, more importantly, to Jesus. Love opens doors and builds bridges. The lack of love, on the other hand, is a repellent and a deterrent.

Love should flow quite naturally from a believer’s life. It is the evidence of close fellowship with Jesus. And the older we get the more loving we should become. If anyone can appreciate the importance of grace, it should be those of us who have had the most opportunity to need God’s grace. The longer we live, the more loving we should become.

Today’s Prayer: “Lord, I thank you for your love that you have wonderfully demonstrated through your death on the cross. You have given me much more than I’ve ever given you. You have saved an unworthy sinner and freely forgiven my sins, given me eternal life, and poured out your love upon me. Forgive me for denying others the very grace you have so freely given me. I ask you, today, to fill my heart with your love for others and help me to reflect your great love to those around me. Amen.”
