Pray the Prayer: Unlocking the Power of the Lord's Prayer

DAY 2 OF 7

The first two words of the Lord’s Prayer—“Our Father”—hold incredible significance. When Jesus taught His disciples to pray, He introduced a radical way of approaching God: not as a distant ruler, but as a loving, present Father.

In the Old Testament, God was often called "Lord" (Adonai) or "God Almighty" (El Shaddai), but Jesus chose the deeply personal term "Abba", meaning Father. This was shocking to His listeners because it suggested an intimate, childlike relationship with God.

When we pray, we are not coming before a harsh judge or a far-off deity. We are speaking to a Father who loves us, knows us, and cares deeply about us. Romans 8:15 reminds us that we are adopted as God’s children, and we can boldly call Him Abba, Father.

But our Father also reminds us that we are part of a spiritual family. We are not alone in this journey—our prayers should reflect a heart for others as well as ourselves.

Take a moment today to pray, knowing you are fully loved and accepted by your heavenly Father.

Journal Prompt:

How does seeing God as "Father" change the way you approach Him in prayer?

Prayer:

Abba Father, thank You for loving me as Your child. Help me to trust You, come to You boldly, and rest in Your presence. Amen.
