DAY 7 OF 8

Start Young—The Word Has No Age Limit

2 Timothy 3:15 - You have been taught the Holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus. (NLT)

Proverbs 4:20–22 - My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body. (NLT)

Proverbs 22:6 - Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it. (NIV)

Roblox! Most people reading this probably don’t know what that is. Neither did I until I started building a Bible trivia app. Roblox is a gaming platform for kids aged between 11-15 years old. Why am I talking about it in a devotional about the Bible? Well, Roblox is a sophisticated platform where children are being taught a whole host of things, some good and some bad.

I recently heard about one child who joined Roblox when he was at school and learned how to develop, market, and sell games on the Roblox platform. At 21, having built an audience and brand, he moved away from Roblox to another games platform where he sold 10 million games and generated revenue of $100 million.

I tell this story to illustrate the power, impact, and importance of starting young. Paul reminded Timothy to hold fast to what he had been taught from his childhood. The Bible is clear, learning and knowing the Scriptures isn’t an activity reserved for adults. It isn’t like learning to drive, getting married, drinking alcohol, or joining the army. Children receive all the same benefits of the Word of God as adults; there are no age restrictions. All they need is to be taught to start young.

Questions for reflection: Have I disqualified myself from the benefits of the Word of God because of my age? How can I help engage, encourage, or support younger people in their pursuit of studying the Bible? Am I concerned about the Bible literacy of the children in my family, community, or church?
