Learning to Hear God's VoiceSample

Learning to Hear God's Voice

DAY 10 OF 10

Now that we have a greater understanding of how to hear God’s voice, we can have more confidence to step out in faith. But faith often means taking a risk.

Even when we have delighted in God, and even when what we have heard is in alignment with Scripture, doubt can arise. We can doubt whether God is speaking specifically to us. We can question whether we have heard His commission correctly. We can be concerned that we are just imagining things. These doubts can come from our own mind, or they can come from the lies of the enemy.

The devil loves to make us doubt the voice of God. This is the same strategy he used back in the Garden of Eden. The serpent said to Eve, “Did God really say that?” The question was intended to make Eve question the truth of what God said. And Satan still uses the same methods today.

When seeking to hear God’s voice, an understandable thought is that we don’t want to get off track. That is good, but here is a wonderful Scripture which works hand in hand with God’s word and our faith. Philippians 3:15 (NIV) says, “All of us, then, who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you.”

What a wonderful promise! If we are genuinely delighting in God with a desire to hear Him and represent Him well, He gives us permission to walk confidently. If we innocently get off track, He will make it clear to us. It’s similar to a small child with a loving parent. The child doesn’t second guess every decision – they just live life! But if they head towards something dangerous or unhealthy, they are lovingly redirected.

God wants us to move from a position of questioning (“Is this God?”) to a statement of faith (“This is God!”). So, keep leaning in to hear God’s voice! Delight yourself in who God is. Know His word. Ask Father to share what is on His heart. Then, if you have any thought or feeling that does not go against God’s word, confidently say, “This is God!” and follow the promptings immediately. Faith pleases God!
