Praying T.A.C.O.S. – a Fresh Way to Talk With GodSample

Day 3: Confession
Confession is one of the most freeing and yet most difficult parts of prayer.
It requires honesty—not just about what we’ve done, but about who we are without Jesus. It’s not about shame, it’s about surrender. Because the truth is, we can’t heal what we’re still hiding.
I think of a man named Ryan, who shared his story in one of our 'You Are Loved' interviews. On the outside, he had the image of control, but underneath, he carried years of addiction, fear, and self-hatred. For a long time, he couldn’t even pray. He felt disqualified—like God wouldn’t want to hear from someone like him.
One night, in complete desperation, Ryan cried out, “God, I’ve made a mess of everything. If You’re real, I need You.” That moment of raw confession didn’t push God away. It invited Him in.
Over time, Ryan started to see that confession wasn’t about God finding out what he had done—God already knew. It was about Ryan finding out who God really is: gracious, patient, and kind.
When we come to God with our whole hearts—even the parts we’re ashamed of—He doesn’t scold us. He lifts our heads. He reminds us that we are forgiven, and that the blood of Jesus covers every sin we’re willing to lay down.
Confession doesn’t shrink us, it sets us free. It brings what’s hidden into the light, and in the light, healing begins.
Reflection:
Is there something you’ve been holding onto that you haven’t talked to God about? What would it look like to bring it into the light, not to feel guilt, but to receive grace?
Prayer:
Jesus, I don’t want to keep hiding from You. You already see it all, and You still love me. Today I confess my sin—not to stay stuck in shame, but to walk in freedom. Thank You for grace that covers, love that restores, and mercy that never runs out. Teach me to run to You, not from You. Amen.
