The Journey of YesSample

ONE STEP AT A TIME
Before Abraham received a name change and promises that are still being fulfilled through our lives today, he was just Abram. Then one day God called him into the journey of yes that would ultimately change his life and ours. God said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you” (Genesis 12:1).
The crazy part is that God didn’t tell him where to go. He just said, “Let’s go, and I will show you when we get there.” This is the epitome of trusting God and not leaning on your own understanding, as we looked at in yesterday’s devotional. This was such an irrational decision to make, yet as we follow God’s leading we can’t allow our limited logic to direct us away from His ultimate plan.
Our ways aren’t God’s ways, and our thoughts aren’t His either (Isaiah 55:8). We must receive His instruction and not dilute it with our human perspective, or we will never experience all He has for us.
Abraham is celebrated as the father of faith. Hebrews 11:8 reads, “By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.”
This verse lays out our blueprint. Our faith gives us the ability to obey God even when we don’t know all the details. Remember, we don’t wait for all the steps to appear; as we take each step, the next one is revealed.
You may not have all the details or know specifically where God will lead you in your journey of yes. But God is with you. He isn’t trying to disrupt your life just to be a puppet master. Any step away from something is a step toward something greater than what you are leaving behind.
So just say yes.
Today, what is one new step God is asking you to take?
