How We Gave $1 Million (Without Being Rich)

DAY 2 OF 3

Day 2: The Power of Simplicity

Complexity is the enemy of financial progress.

When Linda and I committed to our million-dollar giving goal, we tried every elaborate budget system and sophisticated financial strategy. They all eventually failed.

The breakthrough came when we embraced radical simplicity instead.

Jesus consistently used simple examples to illustrate profound Kingdom principles.

A mustard seed. A widow's mite. A child's lunch. In God's economy, transformation rarely comes through complexity - it emerges through simplicity applied consistently.

So we reduced our entire financial framework to four core practices:

  1. Create a gap between earning and spending (we call this the Never 100 Rule)
  2. Build intuitive money systems that became second nature
  3. Automate everything possible - especially our giving
  4. Increase our giving by just 1% annually

This wasn't just practical - it was biblical wisdom in action.

Scripture emphasizes the power of consistent, faithful stewardship: "Whoever gathers little by little will increase it."

Simplifying your finances doesn't just make them easier to manage - it makes them harder to rationalize poor decisions.

Each simplified step didn't just save mental energy - it aligned us more directly with our Kingdom mission. And the transformation was remarkable.

As anxiety about money diminished, our capacity for generosity expanded.

As complexity decreased, our clarity and commitment increased.

Neither wealth nor generosity is built through complexity - both emerge from simple principles applied consistently over time.

Those principles create space for God to multiply our humble efforts beyond what we could ask or imagine. The compounding effect of small, consistent actions eventually creates massive results.

What one simple practice could you implement today that would create momentum toward greater generosity?

Let’s pray: Lord, I surrender my complicated financial life to You. Show me the simple principles You want me to apply consistently. Help me create systems that automate generosity and remove barriers to giving. I trust that as I gather little by little in Your name, You will multiply my efforts beyond what I can imagine. Give me the discipline to stay committed to simple obedience over time.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
