Just Say The Word: Pray With Your Wife

DAY 31 OF 31

Keep It Going!

Congratulations! You and your wife have, perhaps for the first time in your marriage, prayed together through a book of the Bible! I trust you are both sensing momentum, encouragement, confidence, and joy together!

Jesus told 2 stories in Matthew 13:44-46 to illustrate discovering great kingdom riches. An ordinary field worker discovered a treasure and a merchant found a long sought after pearl. Each man made an amazing discovery! Each one quickly assessed the value of what he had found and embraced sacrificial action to fully acquire it! They both went to sell all that they had to attain it!

These stories show God is a Revealer. In His timing, God is capable of revealing the treasures and pearls of His kingdom, whether or not we are actively looking.

When God convicted me through the heartfelt challenge from my wife about our need to pray together in our marriage, I discovered God was revealing a kingdom treasure! To tell you the truth, I was not really looking for it. I was like the ordinary field worker.

Are you the field worker or the merchant? Are you plodding along faithfully in your routine or are you already on a search mission? By praying through Philippians I trust you have experienced the tremendous spiritual potential and value for your lives, marriage, children, and family.

Acquiring great value is worth great sacrifice. The possibilities, opportunities, and fruit will exceed all you could ask for or imagine. Yet sacrificial action does not happen accidentally. It can only be intentional. In each story, the man “went and sold all he had.” What sacrifices do you need to make to lay down your life for your wife as Christ did for His bride, the church?

Of course, the ultimate example is Jesus Christ. Jesus discovered a mission in the eternal will of God the Father. He recognized the great value in reconciling our souls to God and the entire creation which groans under the curse of sin. Jesus embraced a decision as He prayed, “not my will, but Thy will be done.” And He took sacrificial action as He offered Himself as the eternal sacrifice for our sins on the cross. I pray we will embrace whatever sacrifice we must to become the priests in our homes. Praying with our wife through the Bible is one simple and powerful way for us to step intentionally in this direction.

The beauty and power of praying through the Bible as husband and wife has blessed many marriages! May your marriage be among them!
