Know Jesus, Be Transformed

DAY 3 OF 30

Most Prized Possession

Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Our most prized possession gets the highest priority in our lives. We cherish it, guard it, take care of it, and take pride in it. In the parable of the hidden treasure, Jesus refers to a man who finds a treasure buried in a field. Upon realizing its value, he sells everything he has to buy the field to make sure the treasure is his. This parable is followed by another one in which a merchant sells all he has to buy a high-value pearl that he finds while searching for fine pearls.

Jesus uses this pair of parables to talk about the spiritual treasures of the Kingdom of Heaven.

To know Jesus as our Lord and Savior and to abide in Him is a believer’s greatest privilege and blessing. In Him, we have everything we need—forgiveness, freedom, peace, hope, joy, and eternal life. His friendship is what our souls long for. His fellowship is what we were made for. Apart from Him, we are nothing. Only in Jesus can we find our identity, purpose, and meaning in life.

Another interpretation of this parable is that God’s people are His treasure. God gave Jesus, His Son, to redeem us for Himself. Each one of us is a pearl of great value and high worth to God. He takes great delight in us and longs to dwell with us and in us.

God has already revealed to us that we are His most valuable treasure. By making Christ our treasure, ours to have and behold for eternity, we unite ourselves with Him. He occupies our hearts and we occupy His. This union and intimacy are the greatest treasure on earth and in heaven.

Respond

  • How have you given Christ the first priority in your life?
  • Who in your life needs to know about the treasure you have found in Christ?
