Matthew: Healing in His PresenceSample

Jesus Heals a Blind and Mute Man
Here we go again - the Pharisees up to no good and confronting Jesus! In this passage, Jesus heals a blind and mute man who was demon-possessed. The people who see this healing are blown away and amazed, yet not everyone in the crowd is happy.
The Pharisees accuse Jesus of working for the devil. Can you believe that? They have some nerve! Remember when they said the same thing before? Jesus knows their thoughts and admonishes them about creating division among the people.
Jesus says to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined…”. (v. 25) These Pharisees are not there to celebrate the healing of this man. They could care less. They are naysayers and stirring up trouble. They are threatened by Jesus and don't believe that He is the Messiah. Jesus warns them, “He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters.” (v. 30)
As you are healing, you're going to be fighting some spiritual battles. The enemy or "strong man" may try to discourage you by giving you "what if's" about your diagnosis or treatment. Just remember that when the accuser comes knocking at your door to stand firm on God's word.
Jesus quoted scripture when the devil was trying to tempt him in the desert. God's written word - your Bible - is your offensive weapon. Those naysayers and discouragers will come, but don't let the enemy come plunder your house nor steal your joy! If you haven't been doing so, memorize God's word! You can never memorize enough verses. You will use them in your time of need!
Questions:
1. How do you recognize the “naysayers” or discouraging voices in your life, and what steps can you take to stand firm on God’s Word when they come?
2. When spiritual battles arise during your healing journey, how can memorizing and speaking Scripture become your strongest defense?
3. Can you think of a time when drawing close to Jesus helped you overcome doubt and stay grounded in His promises? How did that affect your journey to healing and faith?
