Bread for the Journey

DAY 3 OF 30

The Best Author

An author is someone who creates, originates, or causes something. Generally, when a person has the chance to meet the author of a book, a big project, or a beautiful work of art, the tendency is to ask for the author's autograph. We want to keep evidence of that encounter.

But something terrible happened in human history that completely contradicts what I just said. It's about Jesus and how He was rejected by His own people. And so, as the apostle Peter said, they killed the Author of life: “You killed the author of life, but God raised him from the dead. We are witnesses of this.” (Acts 3:15, NIV)

Instead of receiving Him with great joy or feeling super proud that the Author of life was one of them, they decided to despise and kill Him.

The truth is, they didn't know who Jesus was—not even His disciples, who walked with Him day and night. In fact, the Author of life, the Creator, the One who made all things with the word of His power, received the cruelest of deaths at the hands of His own creatures. Thank God that, being the Author of life, He rose from the dead, becoming the Author of our salvation. “And, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him.” (Hebrews 5:9, NIV)

Sadly, the Author of life and Author of our salvation continues to be rejected. The world has the path of life, salvation, and truth before it. Instead of longing for and wanting Jesus' autograph in their hearts—the seal of His love and presence in their lives—they turn their backs on Him as if He were someone not worth following or admiring.

On the contrary, if you are one of those who have received Him into your life, who have your eyes fixed on Him, feel more than happy and blessed to have His autograph in you. The author of your salvation has not only saved you, forgiven you, and justified you, but has also had the great kindness and mercy to make His residence in you.

This extraordinary truth, which connects us permanently with the Eternal God, should be a source of continuous joy for us. Difficult circumstances, trials, and stormy nights should never make us forget that the Author of life and of our salvation is with us. Let's ask Him to revive and strengthen our faith so that we can continue to see Him despite the gray clouds that try to dim the joy of knowing we are His children.

He has called us, brought us near, and put His seal on us. Let us remember with great joy that His divine autograph has been written on us.

About this Plan

Bread for the Journey

Life is a continuous journey, and every day we take steps on our own unique paths. Some people walk without enough food to sustain them in life. Others are very well-prepared, knowing they need heavenly bread for their survival. In this 30-day plan, we will find words that will sustain us as we move through our daily lives. Let's allow the Lord to sustain us with His Word.
