Monuments - A 7 Day Devotional By GATEWAYSample
Precious Jesus
by Anna Byrd
There are days when I wake up “on the wrong side of the bed.” There are days when I’m just irritated for no reason at all, and I say things I probably shouldn’t. There are days when nothing seems to go right, and I make bad decisions that I later (or instantly) regret. And there are days when the weight of life seems unbearable. Does God understand? Does He see me?
I can’t help but think of Jesus on the night of His betrayal. The moment when He faced abandonment—not just from one of His disciples (aka friends) but ALL of them. The moment when Jesus felt overwhelming fear, to the point of sweating blood. The moment when He looked death in the face and chose to walk toward it.
I will never get over the fact that God became flesh and experienced everything that we do—pain, fear, disappointment, etc. He wanted to be that close to us. And, even better, He made a way for nothing to ever separate us from Him again. Oh what love!
There is absolutely nothing we face that He doesn’t understand. There is absolutely nothing we go through that He hasn’t already conquered. And because of His precious blood and victory over death, we don’t have to walk alone through anything ever again!

About this Plan
Whatever a monument means to each of us, we find throughout the bible that monuments were built to honor God and His goodness, mercy and favor. Some were simple piles of stone, some were towers and some were temples but all were intended to remind people of our faithful God and to have courage to follow in faith with only a glimpse of what’s to come. Today, there are still monuments all around us, we see them everyday… our families, opportunities, health, finances, and one another… we are the monuments of His faithfulness.
