Fear Not! A Journey From Fear To Freedom (Part 2)Muestra
Follow Your Faith and Not Your Fear
“Only do not rebel against the Lord, nor fear the people of the land, for they are our bread; their protection has departed from them, and the Lord is with us. Do not fear them” (Numbers 14:9).
Moses sent twelve spies into the Promised Land to scout it out. Upon their return, all twelve agreed that the land truly was flowing with milk and honey as the Lord had promised. However, ten of the twelve were fearful because the land was possessed by giants (i.e., Goliath - like). Only two of the spies, Joshua and Caleb, came back with a positive report, and they are the ones in this verse who say, “Do not fear them.”
Keep in mind these are all the same people who had witnessed firsthand the Passover and the parting of the Red Sea. Yet, they believed the bad report. “We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we” (Numbers 13:31).
Needless to say, this did not go over well with God. He had already promised this land to the Israelites (thus the name The Promised Land). They just had to trust Him. Renowned life coach Mary Manin Morrissey says, “You block your dream when you allow your fear to grow bigger than your faith.” This is exactly what happened to the Israelites. Their fear outgrew their faith. As a result of their fear, they wandered in the wilderness for forty years until the entire generation over twenty years old passed away, with the exception of Joshua and Caleb.
God had promised this land to the children of Israel, and all they had to do was follow His lead. One thing you must know is that God has never failed to keep His promises. “There has not failed one word of all His good promise” (1 Kings 8:56). The other key to keep in mind is that you will always find naysayers. I suspect that the group of twelve who spied out the land were highly respected men; otherwise, they would not have been selected for this mission. Yet, they followed their fear instead of their faith.
What kind of giants are you facing today? Have you got a mountain (obstacle) that needs to be moved and you cannot do it? The Lord is in the mountain-moving business. With one flick of the wrist, God used a young shepherd boy to kill a giant and save His people. Do not let fear keep you from your destiny.
Prayer: Today,“(I will) trust in the Lord with all (my) heart and lean not on (my) own understanding; in all (my) ways (I will) acknowledge (You), and (You) shall direct (my) paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6). I choose to follow my faith and not my fear. Lord, help me to discern the truth from the lie. With You directing my path, I will walk in my God-given destiny. In Jesus name, Amen.
