The Ten Commandments: Devotions From Time Of Grace

DÍA 7 DE 10

The Sixth Commandment: Keep Your Clothes On For Sexual Purity

Joseph kept his clothes on. It’s that simple. Here’s the story. His brothers hated him and sold him as a slave, and eventually he ended up serving a man in Egypt named Potiphar. “Now Joseph was well-built and handsome, and after a while his master’s wife took notice of Joseph and said, ‘Come to bed with me!’”

Joseph said no. “How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?” (Genesis 39:6,7,9). Potiphar’s wife grabbed his outer cloak and he ran. Frustrated by his lack of promiscuity, she framed Joseph, and Potiphar tossed him in prison.

But Joseph kept his clothes on. Not just his regular clothes (the ones he still had on). He maintained his true identity: the righteousness of God. That kept him sexually pure.

Your identity is not tied to sexual fulfillment or frustration, gender identity or confusion, or fantasizing with porn. That is not who you are, as much as Joseph’s cloak in a woman’s lustful possession wasn’t his identity. The grace and mercy of a faithful God made Joseph strong against temptation.

Your identity in Christ is not broken or hurt; it is not lonely or misunderstood; it is not unfulfilled or weak. Clothed with Christ you are whole and complete. Clothed with Christ you are loved and known. Clothed with Christ you are beautiful and accepted. You don’t need sexual sin. Keep those clothes on for sexual purity.
