We’re quick to mention the overcomers and the underdogs when telling a good story. Who doesn’t love talking about lowly Rocky Balboa’s victories over more famous fighters, or Cinderella’s transformation from servant to princess? It’s these people we herald as heroes. 

Rocky would be nothing, however, without his trainer Mickey standing in the corner of the ring and cheering him on. Cinderella would never have gotten to the ball without a fairy godmother that saw beyond her rags and envisioned her as the princess she would become. Every underdog is led by someone whose commitment to restoring them to their true identity—triumphant victor, beautiful royalty—goes beyond their own need to be seen and celebrated.

We’re called to look more like Jesus—the ultimate servant leader and restorer. As a leader, how can you offer restoration for the people you influence every day? Take time to talk to God about key areas of hopelessness holding your followers back and ask Him to show you how you can serve them and watch their true identity unfold.
