Kids ask parents:

1. What does guarding your heart and mind mean to you?

2. What is one thing you’d like to ask God?

3. Do you have a specific verse that brings you peace?

Parents ask kids:

1. What is something that brings you peace or makes you feel peaceful?

2. Was there a time you felt afraid and needed peace?

3. What is something you are good at caring for?

On Guard!

“Peace on earth” is a popular phrase at Christmastime. The phrase is found in Christmas songs, on Christmas cards, and printed on decorations. What exactly is peace on earth? Peace usually references quiet surroundings and when no one is arguing or fighting. You may have even heard of people wishing for peace on earth.

How do peace and being on guard go together when they sound so opposite of one another? When someone says, “On guard!” it means to prepare yourself because something is about to happen. If you are told to be on guard, you need to protect and prepare yourself for what’s about to happen. In Philippians 4:7, the message is one of comfort. You do not have to worry because God sent Jesus to earth.

You may experience peace because of Jesus. Jesus promises to protect, or guard, your heart and mind from evil things in the world. When you find yourself beginning to worry, remember God promises you peace and protection for your heart.

Dear God,

Thank You for promising to protect and guard my heart and mind. Help me to remember You are in control and You are the God of peace. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The Way to the Manger, Family Advent Devotional

Christmas is a chaotic time of year. With so much focus on material gifts and the anticipation of a certain jolly visitor, parents may easily feel their children are missing the true meaning of Christmas. The Way to the Manger engages families with the biblical truth of Christmas through devotions that redirect children and families to their need for a Savior and the amazing gift of Jesus Christ.
