Wisdom Of The Teacher For College Students, Ch. 4.

DÍA 5 DE 5

There is a real danger of becoming calloused in our older age. We run the real risk of not wanting to listen to good advice because we can think we know it all. That last line might also be true of every generation of college student.

The Teacher uses an example of an old and foolish king who won’t listen despite the rise from nothing to become a king. He is replaced by a poor and wise youth and that is a better thing! It also points out that wisdom and age are not bound necessarily.

The transient nature of glory and success is again on display. Those who come after the young man and the old king, will not remember their accomplishments. We would be wise to adopt a similar perspective when it comes to gaining meaning from our achievements. If they are great or small, in the end, they too will pass away and be forgotten to time. Where can we turn to find true meaning? Another glimpse is coming in the next chapter!
