Our fresh starts come from a sense of purpose and hope that can only come through a growing relationship with Christ. It comes when we admit that ultimately, we need God’s help.
In Isaiah 43, God declares that He is doing a new thing. That He is not concerned with the events of the past, but that He is more focused on the future. God is stating that regardless of the circumstances that you may find yourself in or have found yourself in, that He is creating a path for you to walk. This path will lead you to prosperity.
In my own life, I have prayed that God would bless my own plans. That whatever I had decided to do will hopefully fall into place. Instead, I should have asked God to give me the wisdom to know His plans for me, and the strength to carry out those plans. To not stray from His commands but to instead turn my eyes away from worthless things and go towards His bidding.
When we shift the focus of our prayers from our will to the will of the Lord, things change. Our eyes start to open to new possibilities. This year could hold the fresh start we’re looking for, and it starts with realigning our hearts. It starts with us focusing less on our plans and our wants and more on the plans of the Lord. While we focus on what we WANT, He focuses on what we NEED.
Think of God as an expert farmer. He knows that if He plants us in poor soil, that we will not grow to our full potential. So He makes sure to put our roots in good soil. Soil that allows our roots to take hold. Soil that provides us with nutrients. Being the expert farmer that He is, God also knows that we need water and sunlight. Too little water and sunlight, and we began to wilt. Too much water and sunlight, and we will be smothered. So God gives us what we need, and we grow in abundance.
Some days we think we need water when we actually need sunlight.
