Joshua: Leading Wherever You AreMuestra
Joshua followed God to establish a culture among God’s people as they entered the promised land. We can do the same! No matter where we are, we can lead with biblical values, even if no one knows that’s what we’re doing.
Let’s explore this idea of creating culture a bit more in Scripture. The prophet Micah shares three things the Lord requires of us: do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly. These things are an inextricable part of what it means to build your culture on the foundation of who God is.
Do justice (or: act justly)
To do justice or act justly essentially means operating with personal integrity. The foundation of healthy leadership is built on integrity, and a true leader always stands up for what she believes in. She knows that honesty is concrete, not situational, and that without it, her leadership will not withstand the test of time.
What does personal integrity look like in your leadership? In what ways can you grow in this area?
Love kindness (checed translated as: love mercy)
God’s heart toward the Israelites forms the basis of this word’s translation into English. ESV scholars translate checed as "kindness," and NIV scholars translate the same word as "mercy." In the thesaurus, these two words are also synonymous with "compassion." If we bring this checed into the places we lead, we would help create a culture that respects generosity, kindness, mercy, compassion, and grace. What an incredible place to lead from!
What are some tangible ways you can bring kindness, compassion, and mercy into the places you lead?
Walk humbly with God
To walk humbly has nothing to do with what we’re bringing to God and everything to do with the position of our hearts toward Him. No amount of personal sacrifice or surrender can take the place of God’s love over us and His sacrifice for us.
Where do you struggle to think rightly of yourself? How might understanding who God really is help you to right-size your humility?
