Since I Met You: A Five-Day Devotional With Jamie KimmettMuestra
Day 1 - Peace with God
There's a saying I still remember hearing as a young lad in Scotland - “geez peace son” (“give me peace”), my dad would say. He’d been on the night shift and apparently it doesn’t help one relax to have a six-year-old shouting as you sip your cup of tea!
Yes, there are times when we just wish the noise would all stop and we could escape the surrounding chaos. 2020 has very successfully put that feeling upon us thus far with political, social, racial, and every other kind of unrest imaginable!
What a year, and that’s just ten seconds into the 6 o’clock news.
It’s doable for most to brush off one disaster, but when it’s followed by several others?! Makes you wonder: is God showing us something significant here? Is He waiting for His world to finally ask the right question; Where is the peace? Why such blatant bankruptcy of unity everywhere? For centuries, more education was the answer for humanity, then medicine was the great hope, then sociology, psychology…. All the ‘ologies! But in the end, here we are, helpless and void of progression. Where is the Peace?
Well, friends, that's the hard part, the honest part, and here comes the good news! The truth is the peace we all need to make the world a better place is not found in us, our policies, or in our most charitable tolerances. Real peace begins when we’re made right with God! This peace is not carnal or temporary, but spiritual and lasting and it is found in Jesus Christ alone! Because the problem is not out there. It’s in here. In my heart and yours. Yes, sin has robbed us of peace by dividing us from our maker and fellow man.
I spent over 20 years of my life with a metaphorical black hole in my heart - one no money or relationship could cure, but since I met Jesus, it’s gone! The gospel didn’t make my troubles vanish but, oh, what a difference it is when we can cast all our cares upon Him and drink of His rivers of delights. Yes! There is lasting and life-changing peace available for ALL who come! Come, let us drink deeply, friends, from the fountain that never runs dry! And through faith let the Prince of Peace heal and set our hearts to love God and our neighbors.
“You met me in a desperate place and that’s where everything changed.”
