Have you ever had a friend give some unsolicited advice that did not make sense for your circumstance? That is what is happening with Nehemiah in verses 10-13. Although Nehemiah’s friend meant well, hiding was NOT in Nehemiah’s plan. He was determined, and then later found out this friend betrayed him by conspiring with the enemy. People were seriously after this dude!
This story reminds me of when Jesus was telling his disciples that he was going to die. One of his closest friends, Peter, rebukes Jesus. Could you imagine that? Rebuking the Savior of the world? Jesus then proceeds to call Peter “Satan” because of how far off Peter was from God’s plan.
As harsh as that seems, how willing are we to say that to the things that pull us from God’s plan?
