Bricklayers 7Muestra
The wall was repaired and rebuilt. The people stood back and admired their handiwork. It had been a very long 52 days. But the empty spaces had been filled with bricks and mortar. The gates and doors had been hung in their places with sturdy hinges and locks. The city of Jerusalem was once again safe and secure. Nehemiah knew it was time for the next phase of leadership. The part where the leader needs to hand off some of the responsibility to others. Thankfully there were two very trustworthy men that Nehemiah identified who would continue what he had started. Nehemiah knew they were faithful men who feared God and would lead the people as he had.
When the hard part of a project is complete. When a tough season of life seems to be ending and things are looking promising, we might be tempted to let our guard down. But as Nehemiah demonstrates in verse three, we must remain vigilant. We must guard our hearts like the walls and gates guarded and protected the city and the people inside. We must not allow temptation to enter when we aren’t paying attention. We must remain alert for the enemy’s attacks so that we aren’t broken down and destroyed.
How do you guard your heart? Do you spend time reading God’s Word? Are you ever still in His presence and just let Him love you? Do you serve others from the overflow?
