Do Not Fear

“Do not fear, Becky, for I am with you…I will strengthen you, Becky.” While the original Hebrew doesn’t really say “Becky,” I like to personalize this verse by adding my name to it. Without twisting the original meaning and intent of the Holy Spirit, this verse (along with many other scriptures) can be personally applied to a follower of Jesus Christ.

Try it. Add your name to the verse. For maximum impact, read it out loud. What storm of anxious thoughts is the Lord calming as you speak His Word to your spirit? What is causing sleepless nights? What situation is consuming your thoughts? Which of your life’s circumstances appears to be beyond the ability of Almighty God? Your Creator and Rock, your High Tower and Deliverer has promised, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you” (Heb. 13:5, NIV), so why are you so fearful?

He promises to help you, hold you, and never leave you. He is your God, dear one. He is not a celestial crutch or a comfy aura resulting from positive thinking. He’s God. Learn His Word firsthand and begin to trust Him. Lean on Him, come what may.

Prayer for the Day

Father God, You are the God of all comfort. I ask You now to remove fear far from me. Strengthen me, help me, and uphold me with Your righteous right hand. You are as solid as a rock, and I can lean on You and trust You through the inevitable storms of life. Oh, how I bask in Your faithfulness to me! In Jesus’s name, amen.
