The Gospel Connections

Gospel Connections

Gospel Connections are the links between a biblical story and the gospel of Jesus. Review the Gospel Connections below and learn how to find Jesus in every story of the Bible.

Gospel Connection 1

  • Joseph was the unique, beloved son of his father, Jacob (Gen 37:2-3). He was also a shepherd.
  • Jesus is the only-begotten, beloved Son of God the Father (John 10:11; Matt 3:17; Luke 3:22; John 3:16). He is the Good Shepherd.

Gospel Connection 2

  • Joseph’s brothers were envious of him and nursed deadly brutal hate towards him because of their father’s enormous favor lavished upon him (Gen 37:2-3).
  • Jesus’ fleshly siblings were envious of him and nursed a fatal, bestial hostility towards him because of the enormous favor that the Heavenly Father had lavished upon him (John 1:11).

Gospel Connection 3

  • Joseph was betrayed by his brother Judah (Greek: Judas), who sold him into slavery in Egypt for twenty pieces of silver (Gen 37:31-33).
  • Jesus was betrayed by a brother named Judas (Hebrew: Judah), who delivered him over to his enemies for thirty pieces of silver (Matt 26:14-16, 48-50).
