Finding R.E.S.T While Learning to Embrace Your Imperfect StoryMuestra
T-Teach yourself to own and live your story.
You may not have planned the life that you have, or the unfortunate circumstances that come with it, but it’s clear that God is working it all together for your good (Romans 8:28). So own it. Live it. It’s your story, no matter how imperfect, rough around the edges, or unfinished it is.
Your story is unique. It’s the only story like it and you are the only one equipped to authentically tell it. This fact makes you the best, most qualified person for the job. Yes, your story is imperfect and may not have a fairy tale ending, but none of our stories do. What you have is a powerful testimony that shines a light on the power of God in your weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). This is something to boast about.
There is a mindset shift that separates simply dealing with your story versus owning and living it. Owning it says, “I get to share my ups and downs unashamedly because Christ is working in and through me right now”. Living your story says, “Each day is another opportunity to receive God’s grace, start anew, and trust God even in uncertainty.”
Owning and living your story does not come naturally; it must be learned and practiced daily. That is why the beginning of this journey starts with remembering who you are. This is the foundation of embracing your story no matter what life throws your way. The word of God is our teacher. Hearing (Romans 10:17) the truth of God’s word penetrates the heart (Hebrews 4:12), takes root, and produces fruit (John 15:5).
You can thrive in the life you have, imperfections and all. Remind yourself that today is a new opportunity to walk in grace, extend forgiveness and have gratitude for the life you have.
Take time today to journal. Write down a list of things that you are grateful for. Take time to pray and reflect on these things, give God praise for all that He is doing in your life.
