When Joy Comes
We may think of being joyful as being carefree or having childlike enthusiasm. I’m elated when a problem is solved, an opportunity is granted, or a dream comes true. Having a “joy story” keeps me mindful that God is the Giver of life’s greatest joys and I am His child.
In acknowledging God’s sovereignty, the psalmist wrote, “Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed” (Psalms 139:16 NLT). God’s instructions to us are found in the Bible. Yet, when it comes to His record of us, I imagine it tucked away in His omniscience and covered with His love.
In Psalm 30, we see an example of what is written about David. After surviving attacks from his enemies and recovering from severe sickness, David focused on the faithfulness of God. He said, “Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning” (Psalm 30:5 NLT).
Notice David’s certainty. Even in the darkest moments of his sorrow, he knew his story would include joy. Ours can too. It comes when a bleak situation becomes better. However, joy also comes as we experience godly transformation or share our joy with someone else.
Whether we carry the weight of our sin or some other sorrow, Jesus, the Bright and Morning Star (Revelation 22:16), provides the forgiveness we need and the peace and renewal we long to have. It’s already recorded in His book.
Your Joy Story
When have you experienced joy after a season of difficulty?
Prayer
Dear God, Every day of my life is recorded in Your book. As I put my faith in Christ’s redemption, Your joy comes to me. May I live and share the joy You bring in the remaining pages of my life. In Jesus’ name, amen.
