Year of the Bible: Part Eight of Twelve

DÍA 4 DE 30

The Elevator of Pride Always Comes Down

It's possible to believe in God without any commitment—King Nebuchadnezzar illustrated this common human tendency! At the fiery furnace, he was confronted with the humbling revelation of God's immensity and praised Him before all people; however, he didn't follow through with any commitment. Because Nebuchadnezzar remained high on himself, God severely humbled him again. After seven years, the king saw his folly, repented, and received a new start.

After seeing a "Fourth Man" in the fire with the three Hebrews, the king outwardly declared praise for God, but when you look closely at his words, there is no evidence of personal repentance.

It's like saying, "Yes, I believe in God," but never submitting to His Lordship. You can know that God is real and great, but not trust Him to have the reins of your life.

After seven years of grazing on grass like an ox, Nebuchadnezzar had a different heart condition. He "lifted up his eyes to heaven…honored Him who lives forever…gave honor to the King of heaven," declared "all of His works are truth," and acknowledged that "those who walk in pride He is able to put down" (Daniel 4:34-37).

Question: Does your profession of belief match your level of commitment to Jesus Christ?

Prayer: Lord, I don't want to love You only in word, but also with actions and a commitment born out of trust because of how good and great You are. May my relationship with You honor You because of how awesome You are. In Jesus' name, Amen!
