HERO | A Children's Book Connecting Jesus' Ministry To Elisha

DÍA 9 DE 13

No one notices as Jesus leaves the feasting crowd and disappears into the trees. I for one sense his absence like before, and I cannot handle losing him again. I turn to my Saba, who now finds me in the crowd, and say, “Saba, I think this man Jesus is the one we have been waiting for. I have to know for sure. Can we please, please, please camp out on the beach here tonight, and spend tomorrow trying to find him?”

Saba taps his finger on his chin and says, “Eli, I will be happy to stay for one more day and see what we can find out about this Jesus. I have never seen a man do anything like what he just did.

“I know the stories, but something about Jesus just does not make sense. He made the water at the wedding move like God made the waters split at the Red Sea. He can make people come back to life; he can heal disease; and just today, he fed all those people with the loaves and … ”

After looking for Jesus for quite some time, the darkness of night began to roll in, and we set up camp just in time, for the sun had fully set.

As we begin talking about Jesus, a storm swells up and winds blow along the shore. Our fire blows out, the waves rush in, and we run to the bushes to get some shelter. Just like before, out of nowhere, Jesus appears again on the shore. Lightning lights up the sky, and thunder rumbles the ground. Looking up I see Jesus not walking on the land, but walking on the sea.

I cannot believe my eyes and I try to yell at Saba above the sound of the wind. “Saba!” I gasp, “Look! Jesus is walking on water!”
Saba kneels down and gently whispers in my ear through the storm, “Eli, remember when Elisha made a heavy axe head float on water?”

I do remember! He made hard steel float like it was nothing. I could no longer hold back my words and out of my mouth I yell above the sound of the wind and the waves; “This must be the Messiah!”

HERO | A Children's Book Connecting Jesus' Ministry To Elisha

John's gospel can be broken into four parts: an Introduction (John 1:-1:18), the Book of signs (1:19-12:50), the Book of exaltation (13:1-20:31) and an epilogue (Chapter 21). In the book HERO, children and adults alike, can adventure with Eli and Saba (Eli’s Grandfather) on a wild ride of storytelling and discovery, and discover how John’s Gospel intentionally pairs John the Baptist's ministry with Elijah, and Jesus’ ministry with Elisha.
