MADE FOR THIS MOMENT: NOAH
Follow Through
READY
“Noah did this; he did all that God commanded him.” Genesis 6:22
SET
“Well, he has officially lost his mind...” People probably said this about Noah when they saw him building a giant ark and heard him warning that God was going to flood the earth. At that point there hadn’t been rain as we know it; therefore, no need for a boat. What he was doing looked insane.
Have you ever felt like God asked you to do something so odd and confusing that you questioned whether you’d heard Him correctly? Noah may have been compelled to ask, “How?” Or “Why?”
But the ‘how’ or ‘why’ aren’t the point of the passage in Genesis 6. Noah’s response was key: he did all that God commanded him. He followed through.
Following through simply means to continue an action or task to its conclusion. Think of moments in life or sports when following through really matters. Just because something is important or significant doesn’t mean everyone always does it. Yet when they do, it makes all the difference.
Our choices matter, and our response to God matters. It can be hard to be obedient to God and follow through on what He is guiding us to do when it doesn’t make sense, when it leaves us looking like a crazy person, or when it is a difficult task. But we can be encouraged to follow through with whatever God has assigned us to do, just like Noah. He obeyed God even though God had asked him to do something challenging and hard. Noah is remembered for his obedience and was a key part of God’s redemptive plan.
GO
- At the end of your life, will people say, “She did all God commanded her?”
WORKOUT
Genesis 6:5-8; Genesis 6:13-20
OVERTIME
Lord, give me eyes to see what You are doing in my life. Give me ears to hear Your directions. Help me to trust what You are doing even when I don’t understand, and give me the courage to follow through with the assignment You have given me.
