You Are My One Thing

DÍA 2 DE 7

Untamed

Every box I put you in

You just keep breaking out again

It’s what you do when You pursue

And though I tried to veil Your grace

Your love it broke right through the cage

It’s what You do when You pursue

Grace can be untamed and relentless. In Scripture, we see a Father who passionately pursues His children, buys them back when they sell themselves into slavery, and clothes them in the royal robes of His Son. He doesn’t just do this one time. He extends grace over and over again.

In 597 BC, the people of God were in a tough situation. For hundreds of years, they had rejected their loving Father and chosen sin, disobedience, and idolatry. They wanted nothing to do with God (Jeremiah 32:33). Even as He allowed Israel to be defeated and taken into exile, God thought about how He would win them back. The Father dreamed of their redemption (Jeremiah 32:36–41). He invited them into a new and everlasting covenant through the sacrifice of His Son on the cross. Jesus sacrificed Himself to chase His children down and save us all from ourselves.

Paul beautifully communicates this truth in Romans 5:6–8. While we were living in rebellion, disobedience, and disarray, God the Son died for us. While we lived in hatred toward Him, He left His heavenly home, clothed Himself in skin, and suffered an excruciating death on the cross, and rose victorious from the grave, all to say, “I love you.” No one else would do such a thing!

The Lord is good at breaking out of the boxes in which we place Him. We may be afraid of His power and turn away from Him, but He has done everything necessary to buy us back from the kingdom of darkness. He constantly thinks about the relationship that He wants to have with us. He pursues and chases us down. The love of God is so wild and undeserved that it astonishes us.

What boxes have you constructed to constrain the love of God in your life?

What area of your heart has the love of God not yet touched and transformed?

God never runs out of love to give. He wants us to receive His lavish grace over and over again. As we allow ourselves to be overtaken by His pursuit, He transforms us into wholehearted worshippers who walk with Him as Adam and Eve walked with Him in Eden.
