Comment
Because we have received God’s grace in being reconciled to God and becoming a brand-new creation, we have a calling. We are “Christ’s ambassadors” (5:20). Ambassadors are people who become the chief representatives of their government in another country. We are Jesus’ chief representatives on earth. Partly this involves living like Jesus so that our friends and neighbors can see what Jesus is like. But we also have a message – the gospel (good news about Jesus) – that we speak. Like Paul, we appeal to and implore people to believe that through Jesus they too can be right with God. It is the task of every Christian to share the good news about Jesus, but Jesus-style leaders set the example. Paul took the opportunity to speak about Jesus whenever he could. He was doing it again in this Scripture. You just couldn’t stop him. He had experienced the miracle of being put right with God and he wanted everyone to know that they too could receive God’s grace. Part of our calling as Christian leaders saturated by grace is to sensitively but persuasively share the gospel that has transformed our lives and destinies.
Prayer
Thank you, Lord, that I have experienced your grace in a big way. I am a new creation. Everything has changed. May I be an effective ambassador for your good news of grace and reconciliation. May the gospel flow through my actions and my words. Please give me the courage to speak about your grace.
Personal Reflection
How would you explain the good news of God’s grace to a friend who was exploring the Christian faith?
