The Feet Part of Iron Part of Clay, the Little Horn, and the Beast that Came Out of the Sea
The feet and toes of the statue were part iron and part clay. Daniel also saw a small horn that appeared in place of three of the horns of the fourth beast, which were plucked out. This horn had eyes like a man's and a mouth that spoke with arrogance. He reported that the statue's feet represented a divided kingdom that would be part strong and part fragile. Political alliances would be formed through marriages, but they would not be established, in the same way that iron does not mix with clay. The Angel revealed that the little horn would be a king who would speak against the Highest, oppress his saints, and try to change times and laws. The saints would be delivered into his hands for a time, times, and half a time. John relates in Revelation the vision of a beast coming out of the sea. She was like a leopard, had feet like a bear and a mouth like a lion. She also spoke arrogant and blasphemous words. He was given authority to act for forty-two months, and power to war against the saints and overcome them. These similarities may indicate that this symbol refers to the same king represented by the little horn, and the periods mentioned may refer to the medieval era that succeeded the Roman empire.
