ONE: FCA Reading Plan For CompetitorsMuestra
Daily Surrender
By Sarah Rennicke
READY:
“For I swear, dear brothers and sisters, that I face death daily. This is as certain as my pride in what Christ Jesus our Lord has done in you.” – 1 Corinthians 15:31
SET:
“Why can’t I get it right?”
We’ve all asked ourselves this when wanting to do well in sports and daily life. But we’re human, and we so easily entangle ourselves in slip-ups without even trying.
As followers of Christ, we long to live in obedience to our Lord, but we often find ourselves living out of the flesh rather than the Spirit. There’s always that inner tugging to go our own way—whether that’s thinking we should get more playing time, or that we really know what’s best for the team instead of our coach. And going a level deeper, we face the same struggle with our stubborn sin habits. We know we are a new creation in Christ, but try as we might, we feel bound to mess up.
Thankfully, God has a short memory when it comes to our mistakes, and today is a great day to wipe the slate clean—to go about practice, life and relationships with renewed vigor. And we do that by turning our hearts over to Him, asking for forgiveness and entrusting ourselves to His will.
It’s all about daily surrender to God’s plan and a continuous sacrifice of our self for the sake of His Spirit. We’re quick to hold tight to the sin of our flesh, but when we lose control of our carnal nature and embrace His grace, God will set us free.
GO:
1. How do you fight the battle of self vs. spirit?
2. In what ways can you keep surrendering yourself to God?
3. Ask God to show you the areas of your heart you need to turn over to Him.
WORKOUT:
2 Corinthians 5:17
Galatians 5:25
OVERTIME:
“Lord, help me to dig into those private places I hide and hand them over to Your care. Let me die daily to myself for the sake of Your Spirit. Amen.”
