DÍA 8 DE 10

Repentance and conversion

“John appeared, baptizing in the wilderness and proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.” (Mark 1:4)

Let us dwell for a moment on the word “repentance” that John eagerly emphasizes. The Lord Jesus also traveled around the country telling people, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel” (Mark 1:15). But what exactly does that mean?

A person's life is often depicted in the Bible as a journey. Everyone is on their way to some destination. Unfortunately, many people are walking away from the Lord God. They are walking toward their destruction! There is only one way these people can be saved, and that is by turning around.

The direction of their lives must change radically so that they no longer walk away from God but rather toward Him. For only with Him can lasting happiness be found.

That process is called “conversion”: to halt, repent, and change the course of your life. This can be very practical. John says that rich people should share with the poor. Soldiers should not extort anyone. Tax officials should not collect more money than prescribed. These are all “fruits” that show a person wants to live according to God's precepts.

Repentance begins in the heart, but it manifests itself in all areas of life.

Have you ever repented? What was needed to change in your life?
