The Legacy Journey

DÍA 10 DE 31

Not So Fast

I didn’t go broke because I did something immoral. I didn’t cheat anyone or break any laws. I lost everything because I built a house of cards on a whole lot of debt. And now that I’ve spent years studying what God’s Word says about money, I realize that I also violated just about every biblical principle on finances possible.

But I’ll tell you this . . . I’ll never make that mistake again!

One of the main principles I broke comes from Proverbs 28:20. Faithful people—those who aren’t afraid to build on several small wins over time—abound with blessings. Meanwhile, folks racing to get wealthy—those trying to score an easy financial windfall that will quickly make them rich—hurt themselves and those around them.

The Message’s version of that verse says it in a way that really resonates with me: “Committed and persistent work pays off; get-rich-quick schemes are ripoffs.” I couldn’t have said it better myself!

You don’t win financially with fancy options or shortcuts. You win through commitment and persistence. It’s pretty simple—maybe even boring. But hundreds of conversations with wealthy people have convinced me that you don’t get rich quick.

The Legacy Journey is definitely not “get rich quick.” It’s all about “committed and persistent.” It’s a lot like the tortoise and the hare. Slow and steady effort, combined with wisdom, leads to success. So I’ve learned to be okay with slow and steady. After all, every time I read the book, the tortoise wins.

That’s how you need to approach building wealth and building a legacy. Let time be your best friend. Be steady. Be persistent. If you are, you’ll win in the end.

Developing a long-term plan and sticking to it is the key to creating a lasting legacy for you and your family. The Legacy Journey walks you through the process to ensure that your future is protected. Visit daveramsey.com/legacy to learn more.
