Glory Song - Devotional By Matt RedmanMuestra
One Day (When We All Get to Heaven)
From the album ‘Glory Song’ by Matt Redman
No one escapes trouble, trial, testing or turbulence in this life. But we can go through even the worst moments of our lives with a sense of hope, deep within us. Some of the most inspiring people we meet are aware that they’re coming towards the end of their lives here on earth, whether it be from old age or disease, and yet, in the midst of that they are still holding onto a very real and powerful sense of hope.
We hope in Christ for every moment in this life, but he is also our hope for eternity and the hope of heaven. As Paul says, “For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all” (2 Cor. 4:17).
In one sense it sounds insensitive to say these are “light” and “momentary” troubles. Some of the things you see people going through, the level of anguish or suffering—how can that be light and momentary? And yet what scripture is saying is that these troubles don’t feel light and don’t feel momentary, but in the grand scheme of eternity, they are a mere breath compared to the goodness and the glory of eternity with Jesus.
When we all get to heaven,
What a day of rejoicing that will be
When we all see Jesus,
We'll sing and shout the victory
Revelation 21:3-5 offers one of the most hopeful passages in scripture: “They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. He who was seated on the throne said, ‘I am making everything new.’”
One day you’ll make everything new, Jesus
One day you will bind every wound
The former things shall all pass away
No more tears
This is why we hold on. This is why we persevere through trial and tribulation, because we know what’s to come: a lavish celebration prepared just for us (2 Cor. 4:18, MSG). It does not diminish the pain to focus on this promise; it simply increases our hope in the midst of it.
