The Lent Project is an initiative of Biola University's Center for Christianity, Culture and the Arts. Each daily devotion includes a portion of Scripture, a devotional, a prayer, a work of visual art or a video, a piece of music, and a poem plus brief commentaries on the artworks and artists. The Seven Last Words of Christ refers to the seven short phrases uttered by Jesus on the cross, as gathered from the four Christian gospels. This devotional project connects word, image, voice and song into daily meditations on these words.

In the midst of fear and uncertainty, we have hope and certainty. Christ came, Christ died, and Christ is risen! Over the next 8 days, let’s journey with Jesus through His last week on earth, from His triumphant entry into Jerusalem to the cross . . . and to the empty tomb. Includes questions for personal reflection or small group discussion to help us respond biblically to the COVID-19 situation.

It’s hard to imagine what Jesus was thinking and feeling in the days leading to cross, but one thing we do know—his trust and assurance in the goodness and faithful love of God. Take a journey this Holy Week through the gospels, walk with Jesus, ask God a simple question, and encounter the vast love of God.

A good part of my life has been spent questioning my worth and my purpose as a woman. In my journey to discover my true identity in Christ, I went to the one place that would unravel the truth about me, the Word of God.

1600 years ago Christians began calling the last days of Jesus’ life “Holy Week.” This eight-day reading plan will explain what happened on each of Jesus' final days and why those events, while often tragic, are ultimately good news. Each day there will be a short reading from a psalm, one of the Old Testament prophets, and a few verses from the New Testament. There will also be a short devotional to guide you through those passages and see the significance of Jesus' last days on earth.

You are beginning a journey through the most important week in history. Come along with us and recline with Jesus at the Passover table, linger in the silence of Holy Saturday, and experience the joy of Jesus’ Resurrection. Each day, we’ll look at what the gospels say about the events of Holy Week and walk through a simple prayer. We’ll follow the S.O.A.P. study method: Scripture, Observation, Application, and Prayer.
